Updates on the UB Stadtmitte
About two weeks ago, we informed you about the closure of the reading room at the UB Stadtmitte. Since many of you are currently writing term papers and there are too few study spaces at the Stadtmitte campus anyway, many of you are wondering what to do next. Therefore, here is an update on the current status!
At the end of August, there was a smouldering fire in the sub-distribution board, after which it was discovered how outdated and unsafe the electrical system in the UB is. Bad news: The UB Stadtmitte can therefore not be used normally for an indefinite period of time (see @ubstuttgart’s post). The lending service will continue, so you can still borrow books.
As we know that the study and work spaces are also needed, we have worked to ensure that there are alternative study spaces. Because not all rooms are suitable for this and because not all rooms are available at the moment due to exams, for example, this was unfortunately not so easy. As of next week, the following two rooms can be used as study rooms from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a few exceptions: Room M 24.01 in Geschwisterschollstraße (except on 11.09., 18.09., 29.09. 04.10., 05.10. and 09.10. and Room M 17.74 in K2, 7th floor (except on 6.10., on 9.10. only until 18.30, not on 10.+11.10.).
We are aware that these two rooms are not a perfect solution and are far from being able to replace all the places in the UB.
Please contact us if you find that there are not enough places, and we will try to find more. Of course, you can also use the institute libraries and other libraries in Stuttgart, such as the Württembergische Landesbibliothek. At the beginning of the semester, there should be 100-150 places in the university library. In the longer term, at least 400 workstations are to be created with additional, possibly rented space as close as possible to the Stadtmitte campus for the time until the general renovation. Of course, we will continue to work on the UB issue and advocate for quick solutions. We will keep you up to date here! If you have any questions or problems, you can always contact us.
