Tips for first-semester student

Are you now officially a first-year student? Then we have a few tips for you!

If you have to commute, we recommend the StudiTicket. Otherwise, you can travel for free during the week from 6 p.m. and on weekends with your current semester stamp and your student ID. Single tickets are slightly cheaper in the app.

If you are looking for accommodation, we recommend the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart and the VSSW for rooms in halls of residence. There you can be put on the waiting list. There are also websites for shared flats on the open market.

Useful products for studying often differ depending on the degree programme. USB sticks are a good idea for scans and backing up assignments. You don’t have to buy a calendar – we’ll give you one for free! There are also many offers for students, such as a free library card at the Württembergische Landesbibliothek, which is especially recommended for humanities programmes. If you don’t like the canteen food, you can also bring food from home in microwaveable and reusable containers and heat it up in a microwave at the university. If you are concerned about sustainability, you can choose reusable cups in the cafeterias: This not only saves you waste, but also money.

If you have any questions about your studies, you can always contact your department or stuvus central. We’ll be happy to help you! You can also find contacts at the university during the first semester introductions, which take place at the beginning of October. You can find information about the central first semester introduction at stuvus.de/erstsemester.
