Studi-Tip: How does the university library work?
In the coming months, the university library (UB) will be holding a number of information events. Everything about the library will be explained there. You can find the events in the “Learning & Working” section under “Introduction to using the University Library/Webseminar” on the UB website.
If you do not have time to attend the events, here is the most important information:
In principle, you can borrow a wide variety of literature formats with your student ID. This is currently also possible during the pandemic. You can find all the information here: ub.uni-stuttgart.de
You can find an overview of all available media/books/literature in the online catalogue on the library website. To reserve books there, you can log in with your st account. You can access e-books, e-journals and databases such as the Springer-Link from home via VPN (+ st-account) and/or Shibboleth (=institutional login=selection of the institution (Uni Stuttgart) + login with st-account).
All media from the open access areas, the closed stacks, and the open stacks (Stadtmitte location) must be pre-ordered online via the catalogue; direct access to the shelves is currently not possible. Reading room collections that are eligible for a short lending period can be ordered via the contact form on the website for collection at the lending desk and borrowed for a maximum of 7 weekdays. Click & Collect via the online catalogue will be made available on the next opening day.
The LEA service can be used to have essays delivered free of charge. However, this only applies to essays from books and publications held by the library. However, you need a valid library account (login with St-Account) to place an order. On the library’s website you will find further instructions and a video. There is also the possibility of ordering articles or books from other libraries in Germany via interlibrary lending for a fee, for titles that are not available in the library’s stock.
You can also use the scanners and copiers with a 3G certificate.
The lending period for borrowed media from the University Library is one month and can be extended up to 5 times if there is no reservation (this is also possible from 10 days before the expiry date).
