New VVS tickets
September has begun and with it the old contract with the VVS has expired. What does that mean exactly?
First of all, it is important to know that we will no longer pay a solidarity contribution to the VVS from the winter semester 2023/24. As a result, your semester fees have dropped by €48.20. In return, there will no longer be any VVS semester stamps, with which you could take public transport free of charge after 6 p.m., on weekends and public holidays. In addition, the StudiTicket for 210 € is no longer available.
Which ticket is the cheapest for students at the University of Stuttgart? We’ll tell you!
The cheapest ticket for you at the moment would be the JugendTicketBW. With this ticket, you can travel throughout Baden-Württemberg for 1 € per day. The ticket is only available in the annual subscription model, where you pay €30.42 per month to the VVS. FunFact: You pay 365.04 € per year. So it should be called 365,04 €-Ticket and not 365 €-Ticket. Please note: the ticket is only valid for students up to and including the age of 26!
For students aged 27 and over, there is the AusbildungsTicket 27. Here, the prices differ depending on whether you buy it for one month (€60.20) or monthly in a subscription (€50.17) and whether you are resident in Stuttgart when you buy the subscription (€30.42). This ticket is only valid in the VVS area! If you don’t live in Stuttgart, the cheaper option would be the Deutschlandticket for €49 per month.
With both the JugendTicketBW and the AusbildungsTicket 27, you get a polygoCard, which also gives you 30 free minutes for every trip with RegioRad.
From 1 December 2023, there will also be a discounted Deutschlandticket for students under 27 for €365. This will replace the JugendTicketBW. It is planned that the tickets for holders of the JugendTicketBW will automatically be switched to the Deutschlandticket. The state, public transport authorities and transport associations will work out the details and provide more detailed information in the coming months.
