Semester Fee

Studierendenwerk fee: 74 € - approx. 37 %

The Studierendenwerk Stuttgart is responsible for the refectories and cafeterias, among other things. Students can get cheaper prices there by showing their student ID. Many halls of residence are also run by the Studierendenwerk. They offer low-cost housing for students, which is an advantage especially in view of the usual rent prices in Stuttgart. The Studierendenwerk also offers other services for students. One example is psychological counselling, but you can also get support with your BAföG application. In the 2014/2015 winter semester, the Studierendenwerk fee was €37.20. Since then, it has been increased several times. It has been increased several times since then. Since the winter semester 2020/2021, it has been €74.

Administrative fee: 70 € - approx. 35 %

Exempt from the administrative fee are:

"Foreign students who are enrolled at the University of Stuttgart due to a university partnership (incl. Erasmus programme); second enrollees who have paid the administrative fee at their first university (e.g. art academy, music academy). It is necessary to submit a certificate of enrolment from the first university by the time of enrolment/registration. VVS solidarity fee: 47 € - approx. 23 %

The VVS solidarity fee helps to finance the StudiTicket. In return, you can use the public transport system free of charge in the VVS area during the week after 6 p.m., at weekends and on public holidays, even if you don't have a StudiTicket and have a current student ID (with a current semester stamp).

A state-wide semester ticket is to be introduced, but it is not yet clear whether the VVS will also participate. As soon as we know more about this and how it will affect the solidarity fee, we will let you know.

"Students who are entitled to free use of local public transport due to a severe disability can be exempted from the VVS fee. Student Council / stuvus fee: 10 € - approx. 5 %

With your stuvus fee, you finance many projects at the university. Examples of these are the RegioRad stations, the StudiKalender, and the first semester introductions. Your fees are used to improve life at the university and offer added value. By the way, we plan big events like the CampusBeach and the freshman party UNO so that they cover their costs. In short: the income should balance the expenses.

Every year (usually in January or February), the student parliament discusses the budget for the coming financial year. This always begins on 1 April and ends on 31 March. The budget is a budget plan, whereby the expenditures must then be applied for and approved individually. The budget must be passed by the student parliament - the elected members of the student parliament have voting rights here. You can vote for them once a year (usually in summer) and you can also stand for election yourself. Of course, you can also participate in discussions and express your opinion without voting rights! You can also submit a propsal (e.g. to change the stuvus fee) to the StuPa.

At the beginning (2013), the stuvus fee was €9. We were then able to reduce the fee to €7, then to €5. It stayed that way for four years. All the efforts of the last few years to organise more projects, to offer students even more value and to actively involve more subject groups have led to stuvus growing continuously. In the end, this also resulted in continuously increasing expenses, which is why the reserves should also correspond to this level. For this reason, a fee of 10 € was finally set in the 65th session of the student parliament. This fee is calculated in such a way that there is sufficient security. The premise was that the new fee of €10 would also remain current over a long period of time. Further increases in the coming semesters are therefore not to be expected.
